人和荳製品專賣店 review

人和

Location: Inside market village 城市廣場 (4390 Steeles Avenue East, Markham) store H6.

They have the best Tofu pudding (Tofu fa豆腐花)!! Well it's the best tofu fa I have ever tried in Ontario so far!

I went there for tea time. I order this Combo B (Soya milk 豆漿 + stir-fried rice noodle roll with bean sprouts 芽菜粉腸粉 OR stir-fried noodle with bean sprouts 豆卜銀芽炒麵) I picked stir-fried rice noodle roll 芽菜粉腸粉...
Combo B: stir-fried rice noodle roll 芽菜粉腸粉 + soya milk 豆漿 $2.99
I always order this combo whenever I go there. It is sooo good! They have some sauces on the table. Put some soy sauce (豉油) and hoisin sauce (海鮮醬/甜醬) and maybe some hot sauce if you like spicy.
Also, the soya milk is good too! LOVE it! It's not too sweet but sweet enough.

Then I order Tofu fa (cold)...I order the original flavour $1.99.
  • They have a lot of tofu fa flavours (hot/cold): almond (杏仁), coconut (椰汁), sweetened-milk (花奶), ginger (薑汁), tapioca (珍珠), grass jelly (涼粉), jelly (果凍), chocolate (朱古力), diced taro (香芋粒), red bean (紅豆沙), green bean (綠豆沙), sesame (芝麻糊), walnut (合桃露), black sticky rice (黑糯米), sago with coconut juice (椰汁西米)
  • The portion is big enough for 2 people.
  • And I LOVE how the syrup is already been mixed inside the tofu fa. You can taste the sweetness inside the tofu fa. The tofu fa itself is already sweet enough and no need to add extra syrup. This is probably the only place I have ever tried that make the tofu fa this way. Other places usually add the syrup separately after they made the tofu fa and you will taste the tofu and syrup separately...

Remember to try out the place when you pass by or shopping at Pacific Mall (太古), it is just next to Pacific Mall (5 minute or less walk).
If you are in a rush & don't have time to eat there, you can buy take-out.
  • The tofu fa is $5.50 for a box and $10 for 2 boxes. A box is enough for probably 4-5 people.
  • The soya milk is $2.50 for a bottle (around 1L or more, I don't remember...) and $4.75 for two bottles.

Here is the menu (in Chinese). *click to enlarge the picture*
Talking about tofu fa, I made a tofu fa clay miniature, check out the photos:

Thai Basil review

Went to Thai Basil tonight for dinner. The food is pretty good!

We started with two appetizers: Thai cold rolls (米紙卷) & Thai bbq pork (炭燒豬頸肉)
Thai cold roll (with tiger prawns in it) $6.95
The thai cold roll is rice paper wrapping vermicelli, shredded carrots, cucumbers, green onions, basil and mint leaves. It has a really strong taste of mint leaves. I personally didn't really like the cold roll because of the strong taste of mint leaves...But if you are a fan of mint leaves, you probably will like this.

Thai BBQ pork $8.95
Tender pork grilled in Thai style, served with pickled vegetables and homemade spicy BBQ sauce.
I LOVE it! The pork is so tender!!! It is super super delicious with the homemade spicy BBQ sauce!

Here comes the two main dishes: Pad Thai (泰式炒金邊粉) & Pad Woon Sen (泰式炒粉絲)Pad Thai (with chicken) $10.95 - rice noodle stir-fried with eggs, tofu, green onion, bean sprouts in authentic pad Thai sauce and served with peanuts and fresh lime.
The portion is really big! Probably takes 2 people to finish it!
The Pad Thai was good but it wasn't really that authentic. It has a strong tomato taste. It's not spicy at all. Well I didn't expect them to be authentic anyway so I wasn't really disappointed..
(If you wanna try Authentic PAD THAI, go to Sukho Thai - 274 Parliament Street (South of Dundas) http://www.sukhothaifood.com/, they have the best pad thai I have tried so far)

Pad Woon Sen (with chicken) $10.95 - clear vermicelli stir-fried with eggs, tofu, green onion, bean sprouts in authentic pad thai sauce and served with peanuts and fresh lime.
The portion is also really big!! Same taste as the Pad Thai. But since I like clear vermicelli so I ordered Pad Woon Sen. It is pretty good. The clear vermicelli is so thin.

Overall, it's a pretty good place to go eat. The service is good, the waitress are more than welcome to explain and recommend the dishes to you. And the Thai BBQ pork is a MUST TRY!
